Electrolysis

HERE ARE THE ANSWERS

have questions?

01

What is Electrolysis?

A very fine sterile probe is inserted into each individual hair follicle sending a localised electrical current to the growth centre to destroy the germinative cells that allow the hair to grow, the effects are almost always permanent and any areas of the body can have hair removed in this way.

03

What are the different types of Electrolysis?

The first method of electrolysis was galvanism discovered by a  US ophthalmologist in 1875 who used it to successfully, permanently remove ingrown eyelashes.  The other method of electrolysis is thermolysis which was discovered in France in 1924.  The two systems used in conjunction are known as the blend method.  To date these methods are the only treatments used for permanent hair removal.

-Galvanic or Electrolysis is a chemical process.  The current produces a chemical reaction in the hair follicle eliminating the hair growth cells.

-Thermolysis or short wave produces heat.  When this modality is used it heats and destroys the hair growth cells in the follicle.

-Blend method combines galvanic current with thermolysis current.  Thermolysis heats up the chemical reaction from the Galvanic current destroying hair growth cells.

05

How long will it take to do the course of treatments required for permanent hair removal?

Depending of the area size, allow 9 months to 2 years.  Most hair will be permanently gone in 9 - 12 months.

07

How does IPL differ from electrolysis?

The main difference between IPL hair removal and electrolysis is that electrolysis works on all hair and skin colours and types.

IPL hair removal only works on dark hair with fair skin. Additionally in some cases IPL treatment for hair removal is not always successful on every area. While laser may work very well on underarms and bikini line it may not work at all on arms or thighs.

09

Am I the only one that has unwanted hair?

Believe it or not, your hair problems are probably typical. There are many reasons people - both men and women - turn to electrolysis as the best way to remove hair. No matter what the specific problem area, age, gender, hair or skin type, hair colour or skin colour - electrolysis can help.

11

Does electrolysis work on course or curly hair?

Electrolysis can help address common issues arising from curly, wavy or coarse hair. Ingrown hairs, raised bumps and darker skin areas are common problems for people with these types of hair who use temporary hair removal methods such as tweezing.

02

Is Electrolysis is an effective treatment for both vellus and Terminal Hair?

Yes

-Vellus hair is soft, fine, and short.  Most woman have villus hair on their chest, back, and face.  It can be darker and more noticeable in some woman than others, especially those with darker complexions.

-Terminal hair is coarser, darker, and longer than vellus hair.

04

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments required varies from individual to individual.  Treatment sessions can range from 10 minutes to more than an hour depending on the area being treated.

Factors such as hair growth cycles, the quality and structure of hair presented, previous us of temporary hair removal methods, hereditary, hormone function, certain medication and stress influence the treatment program for each person.  It is important to follow the recommended treatment plan to achieve optimum results.

Electrolysis is based on the amount of time per treatment not the amount of treatments received.  To start you will come more frequently for a longer duration of time, ie:  once a week for 30 minutes.  Then over the course of your treatments the frequency reduces and because there is less hair the duration is reduced, ie:  once a month for 10 minutes…

06

How long do I leave between appointments?

In this case it will depend on how often you are currently removing the hair. If you are tweezing daily we will need to see you twice weekly to begin with. If you have never removed the hair you may only need a treatment every six or eight weeks.

08

Is electrolysis painful?

The treatment of electrolysis has come a long way from its early days when, when treating permanent hair removal was painful and more than not, unsuccessful.

Dermal Remedy uses the state of the art hair removal machine.  The Apilus is the fastest and least painful technology available today.

10

Can I have electrolysis on my sensitive bits?

Professionally performed electrolysis safely and permanently eliminates unwanted hair from the breasts and nearby sensitive areas with unsurpassed results.

12

Why should I choose electrolysis over other hair removal methods?

Electrolysis is the ONLY true permanent hair removal method and the only permanent treatment recognised by the FDA.

14

Does electrolysis treat PCOS/ hormonal hair growth?

13

I have dark skin, can I still have electrolysis?

Dark skin is a challenge for some hair removal methods, but not for electrolysis. If you've heard that your skin tone means that you are not a candidate for other hair removal treatments, then electrolysis is for you. Electrolysis is effective on all skin colors and types of hair.

15

I am a transgender and want to remove excess face and body hair, is electrolysis the solution to remove this hair?

If you are looking for a treatment to permanently remove facial hair and excess body hair as part of gender reassignment, electrolysis is the solution for you.

Hormonal changes causing the growth of unwanted excess facial or body hair can be triggered by more than just age or pregnancy. The cause can be related to puberty, menopause, pregnancy, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), an underlying medical condition, your genetic makeup, and even some medications.

16

I am a male with excess hair, will electrolysis permanently remove this hair?

A well groomed appearance is important in business as well as socially. Beyond that, some men just naturally have too much body hair for their own sense of style or their partner's aesthetic taste. Men use electrolysis to tame beard hair, neck hair, ear hair, back hair, chest hair, and other unwanted excess hair.
